New online portal allows the public a real input into development decisions

THE launch of the pre-draft public consultation for the Clonburris Strategic Development Zone (SDZ) Planning Scheme took place in South Dublin County Council chambers last Monday.
It was launched alongside the council’s new online consultation portal, which will allow the general public to make submissions and observations on future council plans and projects on an online interactive platform.
The council intends to prepare a draft planning scheme for the Clonburris SDZ – an area that spans approximately 280 acres.
Speaking at the launch, Mayor Sarah Holland said: “I welcome the government designation of lands at Clonburris as a Strategic Development Zone. These lands have significant potential for the future delivery of sustainable communities in South Dublin County.
“At a strategic level, the development of these lands will deliver new homes to meet the housing shortage in the Dublin region.
“South Dublin County Council also wishes to raise its share of economic growth; the Clonburris SDZ can facilitate continued growth of a competitive local economy and provide employment for the county’s rising population.”
The public consultation process will take place until Monday, April 11 at 4pm – submissions can be made online at http://consult.sdublincoco.ie or by post to the Senior Executive Officer of the Forward Planning Section of the Land Use, Planning and Transportation Department at County Hall, Tallaght.
Public information sessions, where questions about the pre-draft consultation for Clonburris SDZ will be answered and assistance will be given in making a submission, will take place in both the Lucan Library and Clondalkin Civic Offices on Wednesday, March 23 between 4pm and 7pm.
Speaking about the council’s online consultation portal, chief executive Daniel McLoughlin said: “I am delighted to announce that the Pre-Draft public consultation on the Clonburris SDZ, will be the first project to invite submissions through our new Online Consultation Portal.
“The new portal allows members of the public to keep up to date and make submissions on future Council plans and projects, using a single interactive online portal as opposed to previously using a variety of stand-alone media, to engage with the council.”
