New public park plans include areas for playing cricket and basketball

PLANS for the provision of a new public park in Adamstown, Lucan, to be called Airlie Park and to contain an all-weather playing pitch, a cricket ground, tennis courts and basketball courts, have been lodged with South Dublin County Council, reports Aideen O’Flaherty
It is proposed that the park will be approximately 10.95 hectares, comprising of a full-size, all-weather playing pitch of approximately 130 x 90 metres, together with six 18-metre-high columns, each with four flood-lit fittings and three-metre-high double wire ball-stop sports fencing.
The plans contain an all-weather playing pitch, a cricket ground, tennis courts and basketball courts
There are also plans for a full-size cricket ground and two cricket practice areas, to include 3.6 metre-high netting enclosing to cricket practice areas.
The submission includes plans for two basketball courts, together with six ten-metre-high columns with between two and four flood-light fittings on each column and three-metre-high double wire ball-stop sports fencing to surround the basketball courts.
Two tennis courts, together with six ten-metre-high columns with between two and four flood-light fittings on each column and ball-stop sports fencing, are included in the plans.
Provision for a one-storey building with changing facilities, equipment storage and a coffee dock forms part of the application.
There are also plans for two natural play/neighbourhood play areas, an exercise area, a social area for teenagers, and a 56-space car park to be served by two new vehicular entry and exit points off Adamstown Boulevard.
It is proposed that a single-storey house called Airlie Lodge, and a detached single-storey house at the former site of Airlie Farm, and a collection of ancillary farm buildings will be demolished to make way for the planned park development.
The applicant, Adamstown Infrastructure DAC, stated in their application that part of the subject site is within the curtilage of Airlie House, which is a protected structure.
A decision on the plans, which concern the Adamstown Strategic Development Zone (SDZ), is due from South Dublin County Council by February 12.
