New pylons will ensure future power needs for localities

NEW pylons erected in Glenview Park are part of “a major investment” from ESB Networks to improve electricity infrastructure in Dublin.

ESB Networks has clarified the installation of new pylons in Tallaght estates after residents raised concerns about the works.

These changes are part of a large refurbishment project on a high voltage overhead line between Sandyford and Tallaght, as part of the Carrickmines/Cookstown – Carrickmines/Bancroft Uprate Project, with works set to be completed at the end of 2027.

Eancroft Park off Greenhills Right pylon towers in the local area be Elmcastle Green in Kilnamanagh will be replaced as part of these works.

ESB Networks stated: “The project includes the undergrounding of an existing section of overhead line connecting to the ESB Networks substation in Cookstown.

“This will facilitate the retirement of eight pylon towers and associated overhead line between Bancroft Park and Elmcastle Green as part of the overall network works.

“The project will continue to support a secure and reliable electricity supply to customers in the area.”

Developments in their area as “totally ne resident had described the new unannounced” and noted an uneasiness among locals.

The licenced operators of the electricity distribution system in the Republic of Ireland added that they are engaging with the local authority, South Dublin County Council, local residents, landowners and other stakeholders to minimise disruption and keep people informed as the works progress.

The state-owned electricity company noted that the project represents investment into the infrastructure that serves the south and west regions of Dublin, and that the project will improve electricity needs in the area.

Power outages have affected homes in Tallaght and Clondalkin in recent years, with thousands of homes at a time left without power in these events.

“This project represents a major investment by ESB Networks in the electricity infrastructure serving south and west Dublin.

“It forms part of ESB Networks’ ongoing investment across Dublin to support growing demand associated with new homes, economic development and increased electrification.

“By strengthening the network, the project will help ensure the area is well positioned to meet future electricity needs.”
