New stand is taking shape
THE curtilage along the Tallaght Bypass will never be the same again, with the bones of the new North Stand at the Tallaght Stadium in place.
While it will not be opened for another few months, the fourth stand in Tallaght Stadium is really starting to take its shape in what will ultimately bring the capacity to over 10,000 spectators.
There is presently capacity for 8,000 spectators in the stadium ahead of anchor tenants Shamrock Rovers’ first home game of the season next Friday, March 3, against Derry City.
The investment in Tallaght Stadium is expected to be around €11.5 million with the works maintaining the stadium’s UEFA Category Four status.
Stadiums with UEFA Category Four status will allow for the hosting of all European games including group games for the Champions League , Europa League, or Europa Conference League.
Construction workers have been on site since the end of May last year, with works set to be completed in July 2023.
At the moment, Tallaght Stadium is home to the Republic of Ireland Women’s national football team, the men’s under 21 football team and Shamrock Rovers.
It has also hosted American football and other sports in recent years, with South Dublin County Council also intending to use the facility as an events venue in the future – with concerts and other large events mooted.
