New Tandys Lane Park is a ‘wonderful amenity’

THE HIGHLY anticipated large-scale Tandys Lane Park in Adamstown, Lucan, was officially opened on Wednesday, September 29.

Minister for Housing, Local Government and Heritage, Darragh O’Brien TD joined the Mayor of South Dublin County, Cllr Peter Kavanagh, and South Dublin County Council Chief Executive Daniel McLoughlin, to open Tandy’s Lane Park.

As previously reported in The Echo, the park was forced to open on a three-stage phased basis through the summer months due to bad weather and below average ground temperatures not allowing seeding and planting to be established but has been now fully opened to the public.

The new park expands seven hectares in size and includes a large sports pitch, three interconnected playgrounds, a space designed specifically for teenagers and fitness areas alongside high quality soft and hard landscapes. The park also includes newly planted areas with native and ornamental trees, including a newly planted orchard area adjacent to picnic facilities.

Cllr Peter Kavanagh, Mayor of South Dublin County, said that the park is a “wonderful amenity” for the people of Adamstown and beyond.

“It gives me great pleasure to be here today to formally open Tandy’s Lane Park. Providing such a wonderful amenity for the people of Adamstown, Lucan and beyond highlights the Council’s ongoing commitment to improving infrastructure in the area and providing new play opportunities for both young and older citizens.”

Tandy’s Lane Park is one of three projects being delivered at the Adamstown Strategic Development Zone (SDZ) following an allocated €15 million in funding by the then Department of Housing, Planning and Local Government through the LIHAF with South Dublin County Council providing an additional €5 million.

The other two projects which are being delivered at the Adamstown SDZ is Airlie Park and the Celbridge Link Road. Work is still underway on the development of Airlie Park, which is located within Tandy’s Lane Helens Development Area within Adamstown SDZ Planning Scheme Area.

The park will be a larger 10.95 hectares, containing an all-weather pitch, a cricket ground, tennis courts, basketball courts, a teen space and 56-space car parking and cycling parking. It will also feature changing rooms, storage facilities and a café. It is expected that work on all three projects will be completed in 2022.

Commenting on the project, Minister O’Brien, said: “I really want to compliment South Dublin County Council on completing this project, one of a number of strategic infrastructure projects across the Adamstown SDZ lands under their Local Infrastructure Housing Activation Fund (LIHAF).

“The Tandy’s Lane Park project has delivered a large-scale public park within Adamstown for the use of residents and visitors of all ages, including a range of amenities such as playgrounds and playing pitches.

“I commend South Dublin County Council for the delivery of this project with the aid of LIHAF funding to facilitate the delivery of 2,000 new homes within the Adamstown SDZ and will help create and sustain new communities”.
