No World Cup viewing for new residents

DUE to infrastructure not being on the ball for new estate Sheehy Skeffington Meadows, residents have been left without TV and broadband – and during the World Cup.

Some 47 houses have been delivered in the new estate, with these homes being allocated to tenants by South Dublin County Council.

However, due to delays with utility service providers, no TV or broadband services are yet running in the Brookfield estate – with delays anticipated for a number of weeks.

According to South Dublin County Council, all of its sites currently being constructed across the county are provided with infrastructure for all utility services required – such as electricity, gas, water, drainage and broadband.

“The infrastructure for all services is in place on all sites, including Sheehy Skeffington Meadows,” the council said.

“This includes ducting infrastructure for broadband / TV services, with ducts to provide choice of service.”

The council added that agreement on the provision of services has been reached with one broadband / TV service provider, with discussions taking place with a second provider for an optional service.

“It is anticipated that a delay will occur with the provision of broadband/TV for a number of weeks on the initial sites, subject to the workload of the provider, before the existing South Dublin County Council network is utilised.

“[The council], as with private developers, have experienced delays with all utility service providers on their sites, and South Dublin County Council continue to liaise with, and assist, the utility providers  in providing a full service to all new homes.”

South Dublin County Council is currently completing 350 new homes across 10 different sites countywide – with the second phase of Sheehy Skeffington Meadows due over the summer months.
