NSAI announce its 12 days of Christmas safety list

The National Standards Authority of Ireland (NSAI) has announced its 12 days of Christmas safety list to help prepare people for the Christmas season.
Some of the key advice from the NSAI includes encouraging homeowners to check safety standards daily; ensure that all children’s toys and electronics have the CE Mark - which indicates the product has undergone safety testing - and to replace any Christmas lights that have exposed wires or loose connections.
“We know people are busy preparing for the festivities but standards really should be at the forefront of their minds to help ensure a peaceful and happy Christmas for all,” said Pat Bracken, NSAI’s Director of Corporate Services.
Following these 12 steps will help guide people over Christmas, but Bracken adds that it’s important that people use products correctly too.
The NSAI’s other steps include testing your smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors, examine toys for sharp edges and dangerous or detachable small parts, don’t mix old and new batteries as it can make them very hot when in use, keep decorations away from fireplaces and heaters, and to turn off Christmas lights at night and when leaving the house.
