Nurse stole €300 in goods is fined €200

A NURSE who stole more than €300 worth of household goods has been fined €200 by Blanchardstown District Court.
Danielle Cronin, aged 31, with an address at MacUilliam Parade, Tallaght, pleaded guilty to stealing goods worth €387 from Marks & Spencer, Liffey Valley Shopping Centre, on February 17, 2019.
The court heard that Cronin entered Marks and Spencer and selected the goods.
She passed all points of payment and was stopped outside the store by security, who called gardai.
She had previous convictions for offences, including theft.
Cronin’s solicitor, Simon Fleming, said his client suffered from a number of medical conditions including epilepsy and depression.
He said that she had qualified as a nurse but is not working.
Cronin had been in a long-term relationship which broke up late last year, and this had been traumatic for her.
She had gone through a “bad time” recently and understood that if she continued to “carry on with that behaviour” she could end up in prison.
Mr Fleming asked Judge Murphy for leniency and to give Cronin “some credit for the way she has dealt with the matter”.
She had pleaded guilty so no witnesses were needed to come to court.
The property had been recovered so the issue of restitution did not come into it, Mr Fleming said. Judge Murphy fined Cronin €200.
