OFFICIAL: The new playground in Tymon Park is now open

THE new playground in Tymon Park opened to the public this afternoon, and is currently getting the once-over by local children who appear to be loving their new community play space.

Within minutes of the park opening, hoards of children, who are enjoying a very sunny start to their Easter holidays, descended on the area eager to road test the new equipment – and so far, the reviews are positive.

The Tymon North-end of the park has been without a playground since early 2010, when the original, 20-year-old timber playground with its famous giant slide, was decommissioned due to health and safety concerns.

Speaking with Echo.ie this afternoon, Mary Maguire of South Dublin County Council, said: “I can confirm that children are playing in the new Tymon Park playground this afternoon under a “soft” opening, with arrangements for the official opening advancing well.

“Over the past few weeks council staff have worked tirelessly carrying out tree planting and landscaping works and we are really delighted with the way this project has developed.”

She added: “There has been huge anticipation locally about the playground and we hope that the children gain enjoyment from the careful selection of equipment and softer surfacing which has been delivered just as the sun shines down on the start of the Easter school holidays.”
