Old Bawn CS hurlers bring home Dublin Schools Championship title

OLD BAWN Community School landed the Dublin Schools C1 Hurling Championship title following their convincing 5-11 to 1-6 victory over Lusk Community College in the final in Abbottstown on Tuesday.

Fionn Lynch opened the scoring for the Tallaght side and continued on to chalk up a further 2-2 in what was an impressive opening half performance during which they played with a strong breeze at their backs.

Aaron Jackson added a third goal before the halftime interval while Steven Fox, at centre-half forward, proved very influential and scored three points from play.

Glen Brogan, who played a pivotal role at centre back, weighed in with a further two before Lusk saw a great goal-scoring opportunity foiled by Ciaran Cavanagh.

Old Bawn enjoyed the perfect start to the second half with a goal inside a minute by Ola Babalola after which their opponents responded in kind.

While the Tallaght side struggled more for scores throughout that half, Scott McKeown excelled at full back, choking off a number of dangerous attacks made by the Lusk Community College forwards.

And when Ryan Murphy found the back of the net late on, Old Bawn were effectively home and hosed.
