Old swimming pool could be utilised for multipurpose community space
THE old swimming pool in Clondalkin should be utilised as a “multipurpose community space” according to Cllr Francis Timmons (Ind).
Earlier this year South Dublin County Council said there are no immediate plans to upgrade the old swimming pool building, which is located beside Clondalkin Leisure Centre.
Cllr Timmons said: ‘’I have been raising the use of the old swimming pool and have been working with the Clondalkin Youth Band, St Joseph’s Pipe Band and the Clondalkin Drama Group to find a space they can use.
“My hope is these three groups along with others could be facilitated in a multipurpose community space. I have been assured that the council have inspected the old building and the structure is good but it will need a lot of work.
The council will work on this building and the county architect will look at what’s possible for the space that has been idle a long time.
“There will be public consultation on the space but I would hope it becomes an arts facility and would be a space for performances.
There is huge potential and I have been raising this issue for 10 years via motions at the local area meetings .
I am delighted there is at last light at the end of the tunnel, along with the established groups it could offer a hub for arts and entertainment space for the Clondalkin and wider area.”
