On This Day in 1997: Did you know Graham Norton is from Walkinstown?

For as long we can remember, famed comedian and television presenter Graham Norton has always been associated with being from Cork.

However, in an interview on Kenny Live (who could forget that piece of television gold) on this day in 1997, the voice of Eurovision on British TV told Pat that he was actually born in Walkinstown.

“I was born here (Dublin), I was born in Walkinstown,” he told a youthful looking Pat Kenny.

He continued: “My mother said to say that apparently it was a very nice area when I was born there […] but I don’t know, I haven’t been back”.

Norton’s appearance on the show came after his memorable time in Father Ted as Fr Noel Furlong, a character the host of the Graham Norton Show described, in short, as “camp”.

The comedian’s appearance was part of the Kenny Live show which aired on this day, March 8, 1997.
