Operation to transform – Clubs and groups across the county start programme and nationwide walk

NEW Years resolutions are set to go into full swing this week as local clubs and groups prepare to take part in the Operation Transformation programme and nationwide walk as the hit transformation show begins this week on RTÉ.
Operation Transformation events kicked off in Lucan this week, as Lucan Community Group held its first weekly walk on Monday from the Weston Hockey clubhouse with a large group in attendance to get moving and receive advice on healthy eating plans.
Ballyboden St Enda’s GAA club also started its Operation Transformation on Monday in its clubhouse, with leaders Louise Butler-Bynre from Ballycullen and David Spain from Tallaght who both made it to the final 20 of Operation Transformation 2016.
Citywise Education held its first walk on Wednesday from its base in the Durkan Centre in Jobstown to coincide with the launch of RTÉ’s Operation Transformation, and is open to all comers with walks taking place every Monday, Wednesday and Thursday.
Clondalkin follows Operation Transformation will kick off next Monday, January 11 from the Round Tower playing pitches at Monastery Road, with registration and participation details available at www.roundtower.ie.
Later this week, Lucan Sarsfields GAA will also launch its Operation Transformation programme with registration taking place tonight (Thursday) from 7.30pm to 9.30pm in its clubhouse.
Two local walks will also take place as part of the nationwide Operation Transformation across Ireland on Saturday.
The South Dublin County Sports Partnership holding a 5km walk in Tymon Park at 10am from St Jude’s GAA clubhouse with registration from 9.30am.
For residents in the South Central area, Dublin City will hold its 5km walk at 10am from the Kilmainham Gaol on Inchicore Road.
Operation Transformation 2016 will air Wednesday and Thursday nights at 8.30pm on RTÉ One, with information on how to get involved, the leaders and fitness and diet plans for the next eight weeks available at http://ot.rte.ie.
The South Dublin County Sports Partnership and South Dublin County Council supports the development of these community walks and is also supporting a series of indoor walk sessions in Perrystown Manor Community Centre (Wednesdays 10-11am) and Knockmitten Community Centre (Thursdays 10-11am).
The indoor walk programme is especially suited for those seeking to become active/regain fitness and allows participants the opportunity to do so in a weather friendly environment. The other element of the Operation Transformation programme with a strong focus is nutrition. Again, through the support of the South Dublin County Sports Partnership, a free nutrition course is being offered locally.
Healthy Food Made Easy is a six-week course with a strong practical element and will run from Wednesday, January 13 to Wednesday, February 17, 8pm – 10.30pm in the Rossecourt Centre, Balgaddy, Lucan.
