UPDATE: Tallaght University Hospital has announced all services are resuming at the hospital following an earlier power outage which impacted a number of areas.

A spokesperson said: “We regret that the emergency situation led to the postponement of appointments for [Wednesday, November 17], they will be rescheduled as quickly as possible in the coming weeks”.

TALLAGHT University Hospital is today cancelling all scheduled outpatient appointments and day procedures for adults and children due to a power failure on site.

In a community message issued, Tallaght University Hospital (TUH) confirmed that in the early hours of this morning, November 17, power to a section of the hospital failed.

The failure has affected a transformer, with the hospital running on generator power in certain areas of the building including radiology, outpatients, theatre and ICU.

TUH said: “The hospital is cancelling all scheduled outpatient appointments, day procedures both for adults and children today.

“Please note this also includes radiology / x-ray appointments and phlebotomy / blood tests.

“Dialysis, Oncology and Haematology appointments are not impacted by this power outage please attend as scheduled.

“Appointments scheduled for today that are being cancelled will be rescheduled as quickly as possible.

“The Hospital will contact patients directly.

“As our Emergency Department is one of the areas impacted we would like to remind people that patients are prioritised according to clinical need and would ask the public to attend their GP in the first instance where appropriate.

“The CHI Children’s Urgent Care Centre is not impacted by this power failure.”
