Padel tennis facility approved for warehouse in Cookstown

Permission has been granted for the change of use of a warehouse in Cookstown Industrial Estate into a padel tennis facility.

The proposal by C&C Sports Consultants Ltd includes minor internal modifications to facilitate a reception, an ancillary cafe, a seating area, bathrooms and changing rooms.

The subject site is Unit 5 and 8 in buildings two and three in Cookstown Industrial Estate in Tallaght.

Information submitted with the planning application stated there will be four padel tennis courts, each with the possibility of four people per court, totalling 16 people.

It will be operated using a ‘pay-and-play’ model with the option of different membership tiers, and there will be active coaching along with league play, tournaments and mix-ins for all ages and abilities.

It is noted in the application that 12 covered bicycle parking spaces will be provided, and the facility will benefit from the use of the 20 existing car parking spaces on site.

On March 7 last, South Dublin County Council decided to grant permission for the change of use, with a number of conditions.

These conditions include no advertising signs, structures, banners, flags or other projecting elements that aren’t exempted development being erected without planning permission from the council.

The planning permission for the change of use will expire five years from the date of the final grant of permission.

“Within an appropriate time frame,” stated the council, “the applicant may choose to extend the duration of this permission, or apply for a permanent permission.”
