Pauw names squad for Sweden clash

REPUBLIC of Ireland senior women’s team manager, Vera Pauw has named her 27-strong squad for the upcoming 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup qualifier away to Sweden.

Captained by Kilnamanagh woman, Katie McCabe, the panel again includes Peamount United skipper Áine O’Gorman and Louise Quinn, a former captain of the Newscastle side.

Taking on the World Number Two outfit, Sweden in Gothenburg on April 12, Ireland will be hoping to eat into the eight-point gap that currently separates them from the Group A leaders.

Pauw’s team sit second in the table on seven points with a game in hand over the Swedes and will be coming into this match on the back of a very encouraging run that has seen them chalk up victories over Finland and Georgia while also finishing third in the Pinatar Cup.

The squad will report to camp on Tuesday next to begin preparations at the FAI National Training Centre before flying to Gothenburg on Saturday, April 9 ahead of the game.
