Peachtree East restaurant overwhelmed with enquiries

IT HAS been such a terrible time for the restaurant industry but the next phase of the easing of restrictions on June 29, will hopefully see bums back on seats.

Peachtree East at Tallaght Cross East, were overwhelmed with enquiries when they announced they were taking bookings from June 30 onwards, with peak times (8pm) snapped up for the weekend of July 3/4/5.

“We are still taking enquiries but peak times are gone for that weekend,” said Paul Philips, owner Peachtree East.

“Some of our bookings could be cancelled. In the times that are in it, we didn’t want to be asking people to put down a deposit, a lot of people have had it worse during this time.

“Essentially, we lost a serious amount of business from the end of March, April, May, which is our busiest time of the year with communions and events, so we are licking our wounds but doing our best to open on June 30.”

Peachtree are lucky in that they have an upstairs area, normally reserved for functions and overflow on busy nights, but they will still fall short of capacity.

“We have mapped out the restaurant tables. Upstairs is kind of ideal for spacing but we will still be at 70 per cent capacity, or even 55-70 per cent,” said Philips.

“There will be no big tables, we can have two or four or six at a table maximum.”

During Covid-19, Peachtree tried to keep things ticking over via deliveries.

“At the moment our staff is eight from 20 but we hope to have all 20 back by next month,” said Philips.

“An awful lot of our lunch time business, about 90 per cent, depends of offices, so hopefully there will be more people coming and going.”
