Peamount cement top spot in WNL after a convincing second half display against Treaty United

Peamount United moved back to the summit of the Women’s National League table with an ultimately emphatic 3-0 win over Treaty United at Jackman Park this afternoon.
Like last week’s victory against Bohemians, it was a strong second half performance that helped the Newcastle club to claim maximum points.

Scoreless in the opening period, Sadhbh Doyle, Aine O’Gorman and Eleanor Ryan-Doyle shook the net on the resumption to put Peamount firmly in the driving seat.
Despite their struggles thus far in the WNL, Treaty proved stubborn opponents for the three in-a-row chasing champions.
Even though Tiegan Ruddy, Stephanie Roche, O’Gorman and Lauryn O’Callaghan all went close for the visitors, Peamount netminder Naoisha McAloon pulled off a close-range save from Rebecca Horgan in the 16th-minute before Horgan’s sister Aoife was marginally off target on the third-quarter mark.
There was no sign of panic within the Peas ranks, however, and their breakthrough finally arrived on 53 minutes.
Following a short corner on the left-wing, Doyle superbly found the top right-hand corner of the Treaty net.
In a similar vein to their success at the expense of Bohs eight days earlier, this goal opened the floodgates.
Latching onto a neat Roche flick, O’Gorman ghosted into the area in the 67th-minute and clinically fired beyond the reach of opposition custodian Michaela Mitchell.
Just over a minute later, an outstanding crossfield pass by Karen Duggan released O’Callaghan on the right-flank.
Her precise delivery was met by the head of Ryan-Doyle for her fourth goal in as many games.
This placed the outcome beyond doubt and although Wexford Youths briefly took top spot on Saturday, Peamount are the pace-setters ahead of Athlone Town’s trip to Greenogue next weekend.
