Peamount continue winning run in Greenogue against Treaty

Peamount United continued their excellent start to the 2022 Women’s National League with a comfortable 5-1 win over Treaty United at PRL Park in Greenogue last night.

Following similarly emphatic victories at the expense of Sligo Rovers (6-0) and Galway WFC (4-0), the Newcastle club further cemented their position as WNL pace-setters. They may have conceded their first goal of the campaign, but the three points were already wrapped up by the time the Limerick side rattled the net on 77 minutes.

Aine O’Gorman and Stephanie Roche continue to be stalwarts of this Peamount team and – having already featured amongst the goals this season – they got the ball rolling for the hosts in this contest. After O’Gorman broke the deadlock with a low finish in the 11th-minute, Roche fired home moments later.

New recruit Jetta Berrill claimed her first of the year to make it three goals for the home team in the space of four minutes. Although tougher tests lie ahead, James O’Callaghan’s charges seem intent on reclaiming the league crown this year.

Sadhbh Doyle, Berrill and Lauren Kelly all went close to extending their lead, before Doyle’s neat finish ensured they brought a 4-0 cushion into the interval.

As a result of this impressive opening period blitz, Peamount were able to ease off to a degree on the restart. Still, their search for additional goals continued and they were rewarded with 16 minutes left on the clock.

Berrill had a previous two-year stint at Peamount, but is back at the club now after featuring on and off for UCD/DLR Waves in recent seasons. A four-times capped Republic of Ireland international, she added her second goal to apply further gloss to the already convincing scoreline.

A determined Treaty did eventually fire back through Emma Costello’s superb effort from distance, but Peamount were able to cruise over the line ahead of a trip to DLR Waves next Saturday.
