Peamount record another convincing WNL win in Galway

Peamount United continued their impressive start to the new Women’s National League season with a 4-0 win over Galway WFC at Eamonn Deacy Park this evening.

Supplementing a brace of Chloe Moloney goals, Sadhbh Doyle and Stephanie Roche were also on target for the Greenogue side. After overcoming newcomers Sligo Rovers with six goals to spare in their opening game, this means the three-time WNL champions have scored 10 and conceded none thus far in the campaign.

Following a devastating defeat to the Tribeswomen at the end of last year’s campaign – a result that denied them a third consecutive Women’s National League title – Peamount were eager to lay down a marker in the city venue.

A native of Clare, Moloney previously lined out for Galway and she got the ball rolling for the Newcastle club with a headed finish in the 13th-minute. The assist for this goal was provided by Tiegan Ruddy and proved to be a catalyst for a dominant night in the West for James O’Callaghan’s charges.

Partnering the experienced Roche in attack, Doyle found the net just shy of the first-quarter mark to put the visitors in the driving seat. Peamount had found themselves 2-0 in front before drifting out of their last meeting with Galway, however, and it was therefore important that they continued to push on.

Their pursuit of additional scores ultimately paid dividends as Moloney grabbed her second goal of the game in the 42nd-minute to ensure the Peas were three goals to the good at the interval.

As a consequence, the chances of a dramatic fightback from Galway were unlikely on this occasion. Peamount were easing their way over the line, but extended their lead nonetheless before the time had elapsed.

Roche grabbed a brace in the Sligo game and added to her tally with another confident finish on 85 minutes to round off another fine performance.
