Pedestrian crossings to improve road safety

LUCAN IS to get two new pedestrian crossings on the Newcastle Road as part of a major road upgrade which will commence in October/November.

Fine Gael councillors for Lucan, Councillors William Lavelle and Vicki Casserly have secured agreement that the upgrade to the Newcastle Road between Adamstown and the Polly Hops will include new pedestrian crossing facilities to serve both Lucan Sarsfields GAA club and Lucan Pitch & Putt Club.

Cllr Lavelle told The Echo: “The Government has allocated funding South Dublin County Council to upgrade the R120 Newcastle Road between Adamstown and the Polly Hops.

“I have now secured an update from council engineers indicating that this major road upgrade project is expected to commence in October/November.”

Cllr Lavelle said that the works will improve road safety and traffic flow and will also support enterprise development in the western part of Grange Castle Business Park .

Cllr Casserly and Lavelle tabled a motion at the May meeting of South Dublin County Council’s Lucan Area Committee meeting and secured agreement that this road upgrade will include new pedestrian crossings to serve Lucan Sarsfields and Lucan Pitch & Putt Club.

Cllr Lavelle welcomed the installation of the pedestrian crossings.

Cllr Casserly welcomed the separate commitment that existing parking at Lucan Pitch and Putt club will be unaffected during road construction works.
