WANDERERS GAA Club reopened their refurbished state-of-the-art main pitch in Frank Kelly Park on Sunday, at a cost of €240,000.

Minister Catherine Martin was on hand to officially open the refurbished pitch in Ballyboden for which the club received a Sports Capital grant from the National Lottery of €165,000.

The club boasts one of the most picturesque grounds in Dublin with views from the Dublin Mountains stretching across Dublin Bay.

The club ran a number of events throughout the day including a family fun-day to celebrate the opening of the pitch and to showcase the facilities. Those facilities  include a Mini-All Ireland tournament for juveniles sponsored by Ardstone Homes, and contests between the adult social teams, Hurling for Lads and Dads and Gaelic for Mothers and Others who played games against the clubs U14 teams.

Wanderers GAA Club, Ballyboden Chairperson Alan Lalor said: ‘This is a special day for our club – our main pitch is a focal point for all of our club teams and we are especially proud of the quality of the work which has been done on the club facilities.

“Our membership numbers have expanded rapidly in the past three years and it was fantastic to see our 300 juvenile members and their parents with us to open the refurbished pitch.’

“We are a rural club in a growing community and this investment in our facilities will be of benefit to our members and to the local community. We were delighted to have Minister Catherine Martin with us to open the facility and to be able to showcase the improvements to the facilities here at Wanderers.”
