Plans to demolish landmark pub and build 103 apartments

PLANS have been filed with An Bord Pleanála to demolish a landmark pub and build an apartment block on top of the site.

Bluemont Developments Firhouse Limited, the applicant, has drawn up plans for 103 apartments on the site of The Firhouse Inn and is consulting An Bord Pleanála (ABP).

The Strategic Housing Development (SHD) takes in 2 Firhouse Road and the public house which is also known as Mortons.

Proposals include the demolition of the existing buildings on site and this will make way for 103 apartments, a creche and all associated site works.

Bluemont Developments Firhouse Limited, which has an address at Clonminch Hi Tech Park in Tullamore, County Offaly, has two registered directors.

Fearghal de Feu and Sean Corroon are listed as directors to the company, with the latter also named as secretary.

The company was incorporated on October 22, 2020.

On the Bluemont website, there is a list of five developments which are under private residential and social housing in locations around the country.

There is a project named Firhouse on the website for 112 private residential apartments in three blocks ranging between three and six stories.

However, this entry to the website was made in September 21 of last year and there is a disparity in the total number of apartments between the website and the planning application.

The SHD which was filed with ABP on September 23, 2021, is described as 103 apartments.

According to South Dublin County Council’s online database, there has been no recent planning applications relating to the site in question.

As these plans are a SHD, which means they are of 100 or more homes, it bypasses the local planning authority and goes directly to ABP.

These decisions cannot be appealed; however, members of the public can send in observations.

Importantly, it says on the case type that this is an SHD “consultation”.

A decision is due to be made on this case by November 24, 2021.

According to local historian Albert Perris’ A Ramble About Tallaght blog, Harry Morton purchased The Firhouse Inn for £22,800 back in March 1963.
