Pop up heritage gallery on show in Tallaght Village
Tallaght Community Council (TCC) ran a Love Tallaght Outdoors campaign in lieu of Tallafest in 2021 due to Covid restrictions.
This campaign included creating an ebook of a past series of articles capturing personal memoirs of different places in Tallaght heritage.
The series included beautiful parklands, holy wells, historic buildings and waterways. The series is a tour around Tallaght heritage, as told through local eyes.
The articles were published in The Echo a few years ago and the objective was to increase the community awareness of different parts of Tallaght heritage and culture.
You can’t conserve and honour what you don’t know! Knowledge is key to engagement, valuing and protecting heritage.
The project was supported by AWS in Communities and The Echo in 2021. The ebook is now available on the TCC website.
As part of the Tallaght Tidy Towns project 2023, TCC have produced and installed a pop up gallery of the ebook in Tallaght village. It is on the corner of Main Street and the Greenhills Road.
This area is currently vacant and poorly maintained by the owners. The Tidy Town volunteers have spent time screening the site and removing litter to reduce the negative visual impact in the village within the physical and financial constraints on volunteers.
This positive heritage installation may begin a conversation at re-imagining this area in our village – a formal village square, a revitalised outdoor market venue, outdoor performance area.
This temporary heritage installation will provide interesting reading for all who pass through the village.
It also acts as a focus on the need to honour and respect the heritage in Tallaght village itself. TCC encourage anyone out walking through the village over Easter to allow a few minutes in your journey to read some of the positive personal memoirs.
The ebook can be added to over time to include more places and personal memoirs of Tallaght heritage. If you wish to submit a suggestion for future articles, please contact TCC on tallaghtperson@gmail.com
