‘Pope of Tallaght’ appears on Generation Dating TV show

A MAN dubbed by his friends as ‘the Pope of Tallaght’ appeared on Virgin Media One’s ‘Generation Dating’ last night in a bid to find love.

Viewers tuned in last night, Wednesday, February 23, to watch charming 21-year-old Ross Fennell from Tallaght experience ‘intergenerational dating’ as he was tasked with finding a partner for 69-year-old Michael Burke.

The brand-new series ‘Generation Dating’, which is on at 9pm on Virgin Media One and Virgin Media Player on Wednesday nights, features four episodes as two single people, separated by a generation or two, set about to find each other ‘the one’.

Ross, who is known to his friends as ‘The Pope of Tallaght’ on account of being known everywhere he goes in the area, spoke on the show about how he is not entirely comfortable showing his gay side and prefers to hang out with friends in the ‘straight world’.

Speaking about his sexuality growing up, Ross said on the show: “My vision of a gay person as a 12-year-old was a person that wears makeup, that loves to dress in girls’ clothes – I was like, I am not like that, I like sports, and I thought gay people can’t like sport, so I am not gay – so what am I?”

Living at home in Tallaght with his mum and grandparents, Ross’ family were keen for him to find someone but also spoke about how they are very protective of him.

Ross was paired with London Irish Michael, a former member of the gay men’s choir in London who returned from Blighty to live in Sligo three years ago.

A traditional man, Michael said has no time for Tinder or hook-up culture and though he’s loving his life in retirement, he reckons the world of dating has moved on without him.

The episode took viewers on a journey of an unconventional but beautiful friendship that blossomed between Ross and Michael, as Michael was keen for Ross to own his identity and open up to the world of dating and the duo found potential matches for each other.
