Popular lollipop lady Ann surprised on 70th birthday

A SURPRISE celebration was held this week to mark the 70th birthday of a much loved lollipop lady.

Ann Reddin, the lollipop lady at Devine Mercy JNS in Balgaddy, officially celebrates her 70th birthday on Saturday, June 12.

However, the popular woman was ambushed by students at the school ahead of the big day, who presented her with cards they made, along with a scrapbook of precious memories compiled by school staff.

Juniors at the school presented their hand made cards to Ann when they were going home on Friday.

Divine Mercy JNS Principal Marie Mullins said Ann loves her job and “knows all the kids names”.

“Before Covid, she would come in every year to talk to the children.”

A message from the school to Ann said: “Ann has worked at Divine Mercy JNS for years. She is such an amazing funny person extremely helpful and always on hand to help anyone in need. Always has a smile for children and can remember most of their names.

“Ann is a real community person who will make your day with a little chat. She is a very kind mother and nanny to her family and friends.

“Ann certainly takes her job seriously her lollypop stick is like a sword you wouldn’t mess with her or try park in the wrong place, Big huge thank you for the safety of all, and a happy birthday. Enjoy your day from all at Divine Mercy JNS and residents around.”
