TALLAGHT Community Council have launched the An Taisce Spring Clean campaign for 2021, encouraging people to participate in #2MinuteStreetCleans.

In line with the current level 5 restrictions, TCC are encouraging as many residents and businesses to arrange a #2MinuteStreetClean across Tallaght from March 15-22.

This is the 8th year that Tallaght Community Council have led the campaign with An Taisce, leading the way in positive change.

The response to the National Spring Clean has been very positive so far, with TCC members, environmental groups and various individuals carrying out over 20 clean ups so far.

Tallaght Person of the Year 2021 Lee Moroney kicked the campaign off with a 2-minute park clean in Ballycragh Park at the weekend.

“Once I had my litter picker and bag, it was such as easy thing to do in my local park. In 2 short minutes I had collected a lot of drink containers that were lying around the community centre and the adjacent park.

“It was a nice bit of exercise and diverted a lot of litter from our environment. The park looked better and I felt good after it ! A win-win !”

Voluntary TCC Chair Liz Kennedy spoke about the campaign: “Tallaght has many individual litter warriors and groups who care about where they live or their local parks. It is encouraging to see the number of street cleans organised all across Tallaght in the last week – from Firhouse to Citywest, from Deerpark to Tallaght village, and our parks and rivers weren’t overlooked as part of the Spring Clean either!

“Several litter picks took place in Dodder Valley Park during the week removing a lot of single use plastics from the well-used park.

“The fearless Christine Baretto of Dodder Valley Littermugs even got into a kayak to remove bulky items from the water just above Balrothery weir. Despite the restrictions, all of these short litter picks have created a very positive impact in Tallaght.

“Of course, it doesn’t have to be Spring to do short litter picks, it could become part of your daily walk.”

The An Taisce National Spring Clean will run for the entire month of March. If you do a #2MinuteStreetClean in your area, make sure you upload it to social media using the hashtag to be in with a chance of winning a prize.
