Power trip for pharmacies via dedicated charging bay in Citywest

OVER 30 pharmacies in Dublin will receive medical supplies from an electric delivery van that is powered from a dedicated charging bay in Citywest.

Approximately 34 pharmacies across Dublin are involved with the initiative, established by Danish Novo Nordisk.

The pharmacies will receive medicine deliveries from a new all-electric delivery van as part of Novo Nordisk’s environmental strategy, Circular for Zero, to eliminate company CO2 emissions by 2030 and become net zero by 2045.

This flagship e-van, launched by Minister for Circular Economy, Ossian Smyth, marks the introduction of a pilot scheme to replace Novo Nordisk Ireland’s delivery fleet with electric vehicles, building on the 66 per cent of their company cars that are already electric.

The e-van is fuelled by 100 per cent renewable energy from a dedicated charging station in Citywest and offers a maximum range of 210 kilometres.

Nina Hovland, Vice President and General Manager of Novo Nordisk Ireland, launched the initiative with Ossian Smyth TD, Minister of State with responsibility for Public Procurement, eGovernment and Circular Economy.

In June, it was reported that Novo Nordisk acquired 85 acres of land at Grange Castle West for €51m – a deal hailed as “big news for the county and Ireland” according to South Dublin County Council.

The deal for the council-owned land also includes the option for the pharma giant to acquire a further 21 acres, which will return back to council ownership in two years if it is not used.
