Raising the kerb will prevent large vehicles cutting across roundabout

THE kerb line on a small roundabout in Clondalkin will be raised to offer better protection to the island from larger vehicles.

Cllr William Carey (SF) says large vehicles find it difficult to navigate the roundabout at St John’s Lawn and Green.

At the area meeting, Carey asked the council to carry out the necessary works to rectify the problem of “large vehicles being unable to navigate this junction without impinging upon the verge and green of the roundabout at St John’s Lawn and Green.”

In response, SDCC said: “The team have looked at this roundabout. The turning circles are well within specifications and the lane widths are above average.

There should be no need for HGVs to mount the roundabout in its current configuration.

“However, as damage has already taken place on the central island, the traffic section proposes to relay the kerb line of the island at a higher level which will prevent straight line cutting move-ments.

It has been included in our programme of works.”
