Religious publisher Veritas to close stores

IRELAND’S leading religious publisher and retailer Veritas, expects to wind down all it’s retail outlets by the end of the year, including a store the charity opened at The Square, Tallaght, in 2022.

Headquartered on Abbey Street, it employs more than 80 people and has seven stores nationwide and a warehouse facility in Blanchardstown.

The company saw “a sustained business downturn” in recent years.

“The cumulative effect of significantly reduced trading income and higher costs mean that the business will not be able to generate sufficient revenues to continue operating into the future,” the company said.

“This is a highly unfortunate situation which we are acutely aware will impact our employees, customers, and the communities we have served for close to 100 years,” said Chris Queenan, Chairperson of Veritas.

Veritas publish over 40 books each year in areas of theology, scripture, prayer, spirituality, parenting, counselling, children’s issues, social commentary and religious education.

They also have a range of Communion/Christening gifts, nativity sets and wedding and Christening candles.

Veritas expects to remain open for business at their stores until the end of 2024.

The company said it is still in the process of determining options for the continued publication of certain high demand titles, such as its “Grow in Love” series which forms a critical part of the syllabus for many primary schools across Ireland.

Veritas is owned by the Irish Episcopal Conference. It is a registered charity but does not receive State funding.
