Residents are angry as boarded up home is hotspot for illegal dumping

RESIDENTS are kicking up stink about a boarded up house in a Clondalkin estate, which has become a hotspot for illegal dumping.
The property in Melrose has attracted all sorts of junkyard waste, dumped in the front garden and side passage of the home.

According to Independents4Change local election candidate Dave Moore, the property was the subject of a fire in May of last year, and a council tenant is waiting to move back in.
“Residents have been reporting this dumping to the council but nothing has happened,” he said.
“Coming into the winter, rats will be looking for somewhere warm to stay. If this was rubbish in Dublin 4, it would be cleared.
“Residents living here are paying their mortgage and taxes, they don’t deserve this and shouldn’t have to put up with it. This is what happens when you privatise the bin charges.”
Moore also cited another longterm vacant home in the area whilst out canvassing, on Melrose Lawns which The Echo understands is privately owned.
“It is sad to see with families in B&B’s. The government blame the councils and the councils blames the government. We need to start building homes on public land.”
A spokesperson for South Dublin County Council said they have moved to secure the property and get it ready for re-letting.
“Works to refurbish the council-owned property are due to commence next week.”
