Residents Association are hoping to re-establish Neighbourhood Watch

THE parish of St Martin De Porres is the latest Tallaght community to revive its Residents’ Association, with plans underway to re-establish the Neighbourhood Watch.

After a meeting in March, the revived association, which includes Aylesbury and Old Bawn, swept into decisive, positive action and organised a house-to-house electrical recycling collection – which, held in conjunction with Recycle IT, covered 1,000 houses in four days.

The committee hopes to run phase two of the collection over the summer.

As part of An Taisce Spring Clean, which is running nationwide for the month of April, parents and children also met at St Martin’s School and the church to start a litter picking and grass cutting campaign around the communal areas of Aylesbury.

According to organisers, more than 20 large bags of litter were collected, with the children’s play area given a deep clean to remove litter and broken glass.

“The volunteers were spurred on by the good weather and even tackled some areas of damage on the football pitches from the illegal bon fires last Halloween”, organisers told The Echo.

“These were thoroughly cleared of glass, nails and other dangerous items and the sod turned to encourage fresh grass growth. 

“These areas were also ‘seed bombed’ by local kids – who hope to see summer flowers bloom in these areas in June.”

The association is also re-establishing the Neighbourhood Watch, as well as seeking a deputation with South Dublin County Council before the summer.

Volunteers are still needed to be street co-ordinators to complete the Neighbourhood Watch set-up, particularly the areas of Dalepark, Parc Gleann na Trasna, Summerfield and Watermeadow.
