Residents concerned over plans at protected structure

RATHCOOLE Community Council have submitted a detailed submission raising concerns regarding a proposal for 69 apartments at the former rectory building Glebe House.

Plans were lodged in February by LBJ Properties for a new 69-bedroom aparthotel with reception, a restaurant or coffee shop, and bar, 15 retail units and four market stalls on the site of The Glebe House in Rathcoole.

The protected structure is a former rectory which has been previously fire damaged, causing the original interior features to be destroyed.

The applicant outlines plans to demolish a number of ancillary sheds and outhouses that are not part of the original historical fabric of The Glebe House.

Rathcoole Community Council feel Glebe House should be “made good prior to the works.”

They have raised concerns about the design of the apartments, and ancillary works.

Fine Gael Councillor Emer Higgins made a submission, stating her “primary concern is traffic management.”

She said the location is near a dangerous junction which would need massive investment, and states traffic in the area is already at a high level.

SDCC have requested up to 10 elements of additional information from the applicant, including clarification of the nature of proposed use for the aparthotel.

The local authority “has serious concerns with regard to the lack of information in relation to Glebe House.”

They are also looking for information on design, wastewater, vehicle access to the development, and landscaping.
