Road safety appeal following two traffic collisions within five hours

FOLLOWING two road traffic collisions at Newlands Cross and on the N81, Tallaght in the past 24 hours the public are urged to be safe on the roads this weekend.

Two road traffic collisions took place within five hours of each other on the night of Friday, June 11 and in the early hours of the morning on Saturday, June 12.

Gardai attended the scene of a road traffic collision involving two cars shortly after 9pm on Friday night, June 11.

The incident took place on the N7 inbound at Newlands cross. There were no injuries reported as a result of the collision.

At around 1.40am of the following morning on Saturday, June 12, Gardai also attended to a serious collision involving a car and a motorcycle on the N81 Tallaght Bypass.

According to Dublin Fire Brigade, the N81 Tallaght bypass was closed outbound from the Square shopping Centre to the stadium following the collision and traffic was advised to divert if possible.

The motor cyclist, a man in his 30’s, who was involved in the collision was taken to Tallaght Hospital for treatment to his injuries which are thought to be non-life-threatening.

In a statement to The Echo, the Gardaí said: “Shortly after 9pm on Friday June 11 2021 – Gardaí attended at the scene of a RTC on the N7 inbound at Newlandscross, Dublin 22 involving two cars. There was no serious injuries reported.

“At approximately 1.40am on Saturday June 12 2021 – Gardaí attended at the scene of a collision involving a car and motorcycle on the N81 Tallaght Bypass, Dublin 24. The motor cyclist, a man in his 30s, was taken to Tallaght Hospital. His injures re not thought to be life threatening.”
