Roche scoops ‘WNL Player of the Month’ Award
PEAMOUNT United forward, Stephanie Roche has scooped the ‘SSE Airtricity Women’s National League Player of the Month’ Award for March 2022.
The goal-scoring exploits of the 2014 FIFA Puskás Award nominee, have gone a long way to helping propel the Newcastle side to joint top of the WNL table along with defending champions, Shelbourne after five games.
Roche twice found the target in Peamount’s 6-0 victory over Sligo Rovers in their opening match of the season, but that win has since been overturned because of the unintentional fielding of an ineligible player by the Newcastle side.
Even given that deduction, the Dubliner still has four goals to her name and leads the race for the EVOKE.ie Golden Boot
“The only thing on my mind at the moment is getting points on the board with Peamount” insisted Roche.
“For Peamount, it’s always got to be about winning the League, winning trophies. We’ll be looking to win everything that we can.
“The way the season finished last year was very disappointing. I think a lot of people were doubting us at the start of this season because of the way it finished up, but I think we proved a point, especially against Wexford where we showed that, when it’s put up to us, we are a really good team.”
