Round Tower growth fuels success on the pitch
ROUND Tower Clondalkin GAA has seen continued growth over the last decade or so with progress being made across all codes and age groups throughout the club.
There are over 80 teams throughout the club with playing numbers just over the 1,000 mark as the club continues to look at developing and most importantly integrating talent for the future.
With current participation numbers at an all time high the club is seeing the fruits of their labour with performances on the pitch.
The Senior Ladies Footballers and Camogie teams have both already achieved promotions this season while other teams remain in contention as we approach the end of the season.
At the heart of the club’s developmental policy is the idea of integration. A key focus is made on adapting youth players towards transitioning into the adult sides with methods being utilised in order to achieve this.
Minor teams will train alongside adult teams from time to time while U16’s are encouraged to train with minors, all groups also work to the same standards and expectations in regards to fitness, strength and conditioning.
The club fields nine minor teams across all codes representing the depth of talent within the ranks.
With more and more players coming through, additional adult teams will likely be fielded over the coming years.
While of course clubs focus on their top talent, it is important to note that Tower first and foremost aims to serve its local community and the facilities and pathways that are on offer to those playing at senior level are also on offer to the hundreds of other players across the teams of the club.
The club continues to grow as does Clondalkin as a whole with new members always welcome.
Barry Finn, Adult Games Officer touched on the growth of the club.
“The club is a home for everyone. The long-term work on the facilities and development pathways has been in place for many years, allowing for steady and natural growth, which has been fantastic to see. It all goes back to the major push years ago to maximise the facilities available to us.
The growth in numbers has been a direct result of those decisions, and the expansion across both the boys’ and girls’ sections during that period has been outstanding.”
