Rua Red present imaginative exhibition made from paper

By Mary Dennehy

AN IMAGINATIVE exhibition which saw Dublin artist Catherine MacBride photograph images made from paper is hanging on the walls of the Rua Red café until March 31st.

Catherine’s little paper-made worlds are escapes for the imagination, with her love of making things out of paper resulting in her making paper houses to space ships.

According to Catherine: “I love telling stories and my photographs often end up looking like a page from a story book and I think that’s why people find them appealing.

“They get to use their own imagination to decide what’s happening and it’s often a very different story to the one I had in my head, but I like that.”

Catherine’s images are used by a number of agencies and have been used internationally on book covers to children’s clothing.

Her exhibition in Rua Red is called If the World was Made of Paper and is made up of around 10 images – which will be mounted on the café walls of the county arts centre.

Rebecca Fitzpatrick, Rua Red’s development manager, told The Echo: “Every year we put a call out to schools, local organisations, hospitals, artists, to submit an idea for an exhibition on the walls of our café.

“It’s a lovely space to exhibit and people can drop in have a coffee and a scone, enjoy the exhibition and be inspired.

“Anybody really feel inspired is invited to come back on Wednesdays when we hold a free drop-in drawing class for adults at 11am, and who knows your work could be gracing the café walls in the future.”
