Schools evacuated following ‘major gas leak’
TWO Lucan primary schools were forced to evacuate this morning following a “major gas leak.”
Children and staff in Scoil Aine Naofa and St Thomas’ JNS in Lucan, had to be collected immediately from school after a gas main leak was struck near Esker Drive.
Emergency services are currently on the site and no phones are permitted on the grounds for safety reasons.
No injuries have been reported and parents are being told that coats and school bags are to be collected tomorrow.
Cllr Vicki Casserly (FG), shared the message sent by the schools to parents and guardians this morning.
Cllr Casserly praised the school and emergency services for their fast action and response to the situation.
Dublin Fire Brigade posted a message on X to say they are working with Gas Networks Ireland after a gas main leak was struck near Esker Drive off the TR120.
“Traffic restrictions in place, avoid if possible. One fire engine remains on scene,” said DFB.
