NEARLY 500 pupils of Gaelscoil Naomh Padraig in Lucan got the surprise of their young lives when Louis Walsh turned up to present their award for “Schools Got Talent”.

The 470 pupils and staff initially thought they got through to the second round but discovered when Mr Walsh arrived that they had won the competition.

Principal Liam Breathnach Louis Walsh and Sinéad Ní Sheoighe in front of the pupils of Gaelscoil Naomh Pádraig

They sang a George  Ezra song 'ShotGun’ sung in Irish.

Teacher Sinéad  Ní Shaoraí taught the song and choreographed movements to 5th class students who then went out throughout the whole school and taught all students from Junior infants to Sixth class, all teaching staff, SNA’s, caretaker, secretary and librarian.

The song was intended to bring the whole school  together to celebrate the Irish Language for Seachtain na Gaeilge.

Principal Liam Breathnach told The Echo, “We were blown away to find out that we had won the competition and that the school would be on Ireland AM.”

The Deputy Principal Redempta Ní Sheoighe said it was a great experience for the pupils.

She said: “The kids are still thrilled. They got the surprise of their lives as they just were not expecting it. It was all down to teacher Sinéad Ní Shaoraí who translated the song into Irish, taught the song to the pupils and choreographed. It was a special day for the whole school when Louis turned up to present their award, It really was.”
