Seachtain na Gaeilge: Tallaght teens driving the Irish language forward

Mar chuid de Sheachtain na Gaeilge le Energia, bhí daoine óga ó Chlub Óige Feachtas Tamhlacht ag cur an Ghaeilge chun cinn i dTamhlacht.

Ghlac ár ndaoine óga páirt i gceardlann raidió le Raidió RíRá, i gceolchoirm ar líne comórtais ealaíne agus Tráth na gCeist do dhaoine óga sa cheantar a d’eagraigh an Club Óige,” a deir Loretta Ní Churraighín, Bainisteoir Feachtais.

“Ní hamháin go mbíonn an Ghaeilge á chur chun cinn acu le linn Sheachtain na Gaeilge ach i rith na bliana,” arsa Loretta.

“Déanann an Club ceardlanna a eagrú ar líne ina mhúintear cocáireacht, cúrsaí ealaíne agus a leithéid le tacaíocht ó Fhoras na Gaeilge.

“Bíonn seó tallaine, toraíocht taisce, comórtais cluichí agus go leor ceol ‘s craic againn trí mheán na Gaeilge,” a deir Órlaith Ní Óráin ó Feachtas.

Deir Órlaith go bhfuil daoine óga ag fáil a gcuid Boinn Gaisce ó Uachtarán na hÉireann agus tograí déanta acu trí Ghaeilge.

Tallaght’s teenagers have played their part in promoting the Irish language during Seachtain na Gaeilge with Energia over the past two weeks having organised and participated in online events.

“Our Seachtain na Gaeilge le Energia events were held online due to Covid-19 restrictions, however, this has not stopped our young members contributing positively to our community and wider society through the Irish language”, says Feachtas Club Óige Manager, Loretta Ní Churraighín.

“The youth club members are acutely aware of the climate crisis,” says Loretta.

“They have designed a ‘Trash to Treasure’ initiative, recycling unused clothing and domestics products in the Tallaght community. This recycling initiative has been granted support by the Youth Climate Justice Fund at the Department of Children and Youth Affairs.

“We are immensely proud of our young vibrant members that drive our youth club forward with their great ideas, initiative and energy,” concluded Loretta.

Tallaght has a strong Irish Language community, with several gaelscoileanna (Scoil Santáin, Scoil Caitlín Maude and Colaiste de hÍde) as well as a newly-opened Irish Language Café.
