Search of home led to seizure of cannabis and cocaine worth €1,400

A SEARCH of a home which led to a seizure of cannabis and cocaine worth over €1,400, was for personal use among family members, a court heard.

Michael Hogan (37), Donomore Avenue, Tallaght, appeared before Tallaght District Court.

Garda Jimmy Dillane told the court that on November 30, 2011, a search of a property on Donomore Avenue led to the seizure of cannabis worth €1,050 and cocaine to the value of €400.

The court heard the drugs were for personal possession and family members.

“You’re not doing your family much favours by giving them drugs,” said Judge Patricia McNamara to Mr Hogan.

The court heard Hogan has 131 previous convictions, including 110 for road traffic offences and 10 for misuse of drugs offences.

Defence solicitor Michael Hennessy said his client has not come to garda attention since the 2021 incident and has undergone drug treatment.

Mr Hennessy said that unfortunately crime and drug addiction were normalised within the family for his client at a young age.

The court heard Mr Hogan had struggled with heroin addiction but was now on a methadone treatment programme for the last seven months.

Judge Patricia McNamara took into account the mitigations and sentenced Mr Hogan to 10 months in prison suspended for a period of 12 months on conditions that include no drug possession, unauthorised use or reoffending.
