September Team of the Month – Rathfarnham Ladies Golf Team
RATHFARNHAM Ladies Golf squad scooped the September Team Award after they landed their club’s first ever All-Ireland pennant at any level.
Indeed, Jane O’Byrne’s girls beat East Cork in the AIG Junior Cup Final in Knightsbrook Hotel and Golf Resort to end a 119-year wait for a first national crown.

In what was a very convincing performance by the team in the decider, Carol Loftus clinched the decisive point on the 18th green after Lynda Keartland and Pamela Cassidy had carded early wins.
Loftus, who was two up with three holes to play, produced a nerveless finish to secure a two-match victory - the first for an East Leinster outfit since Dublin City won the Junior Cup in 2009.
It completed a fantastic campaign for the team that started back in April when they beat Dun Laoghaire in the opening round in Powerscourt.
Between then and the provincial decider, the team despatched the K Club, Stackstown, Dundalk and Naas after which they beat Elm Park in the East Leinster Final.
That paved their way for a clash with Moate in the All-Ireland semi final before they saw off East Cork 3.5 to 1.5 in the title decider.
