Seven submissions received for €350k Castletymon Shopping Centre upgrade

THE PUBLIC consultation for the €350k Castletymon Shopping Centre upgrade has closed, with the Part 8 report to be brought to the council on February 14.

The public consultation phase began on November 9, 2021, and ran until January 4, 2022, and received a total of seven submissions, with two being withdrawn before the closing date.

The upgrade to the Tallaght shopping centre is part of South Dublin County Council’s District Centre Enhancement Programme, which aims to turn centres and villages into “welcoming, distinctive and resilient places” which encourage community cohesion as well as support the good growth of retail, enterprise and housing.

A South Dublin County Council spokesperson previously told The Echo that the current financial commitment by the council for Castletymon is €350k, with scope to increase as the final design is developed.

The key items that were raised through the submissions in the public consultation phase included a request for additional bicycle parking, a new bus shelter, wider cycle lanes, signalised toucan crossing and a request for parent and child spaces and e-charger spaces in the car park.

The progress that has been made on the enhancement project to date includes a number of technical surveys have been undertaken to enable the design process, NTA funding has been sought to provide additional footway and cycleway upgrades and concept images to help guide the design process have been developed.

The Part 8 Report is due to be presented to Council on the February 14, 2022. If approved the scheme will be progressed to Detailed Design immediately, with the intention that construction will begin in Q3 of 2022.
