Cllr Dermot Richardson (SF) released a message on behalf of Alex’s family, which confirmed a vigil will take place later today at 6pm at Alex’s home in Tallaght.

The heartfelt message states: “Alex was a normal happy 15-year-old child loved by all his family. He loved Shamrock Rovers and Man United. He was a season ticket holder for Rovers and loved attending the matches home and away.”

“Alex’s Mam and Dad are appealing for information to the circumstances of his death. Please get in touch if you have information.

“A vigil will be held at 6pm tonight at Alex’s home where green and red balloons will be released for his favourite teams in Alex’s memory. Please respect the family’s privacy.”

Such was Alex’s standing with Shamrock Rovers, that his favourite player Aaron McEneff posted a social media message, sending his condolences to the family.

In a touching video, McEneff said he heard of the “sad news” this morning.
