Shortage of bus drivers is more usually the reason for the ‘ghost buses’ not appearing

Ghost buses are “most notably due to a shortage of bus drivers” according to the National Transport Authority (NTA).

South Dublin County Council wrote to the NTA and Dublin Bus in October asking for an overall review of their service in the county, as residents repeatedly experienced buses not showing up – “ghost buses” – or buses at full capacity that wouldn’t stop by them at rush hours.
