Siobhan Stars in Bodkin: Rathfarnham native plays Dove in Comedic Thriller

Netflix is excited to announce the release date for ‘Bodkin’, which was filmed in West Cork, Wicklow, and Dublin. All seven episodes of the darkly comedic thriller will premiere on Netflix on Thursday, May 9, reports Ryan Butler.

Co-showrunner and Executive Producer Alex Metcalf loved filming Bodkin in Ireland: “The imaginary town of Bodkin is situated in West Cork, and it’s a wild and fabulous landscape.

Union Hall really appealed to us as a location and so did its connection to the ocean.

There’s a working harbour there, and it’s incredibly beautiful. The locals in Union Hall have been incredibly welcoming, helpful, and receptive to our work in the town.”

Rathfarnham native Siobhan Cullen (Dove) agrees: “It’s been really brilliant shooting at home in Ireland, especially shooting in West Cork. It’s, in my opinion, one of the most beautiful places in the world.”

Siobhan was enrolled in classes at Ann Kavanagh’s Young People’s Theatre in addition to Loreto High School Beaufort.

Trinity College awarded her a Bachelor of Arts in Drama and Theatre Studies.

When Cullen was chosen to play Josie Kilbride in Marina Carr’s ‘By the Bog of Cats’ at the Abbey Theatre, it was when she was approximately eight years old.

She then went on to play young Jane Eyre at the Gate Theatre in 2003, after making her feature film debut in ‘The Crooked Mile’ in 2001 and another role at the Abbey Theatre in ‘Ariel.’ In the fifth season of the RTÉ One medical drama ‘The Clinic,’ which aired in 2007, she made her television debut as Kristen.

Cullen would make a comeback to the Gate Theatre in the next three productions: ‘An Enemy of the People’ (2012), ‘A Woman of No Importance’ (2011), and ‘An Ideal Husband’ (2014).

She debuted on stage in ‘The Life and Sort of Death of Eric Argyle’ at the 59E59 Theatre in New York City and acted in Eoin Macken’s horror film ‘The Inside,’ both in 2012.

Cullen made her London theatrical debut in 2016 with a small role in ‘The Plough and the Stars’ at the National Theatre.

The following year, she made a comeback to television as Morgan in the ‘Paula’ miniseries on RTÉ1 and BBC One.

She received an Irish Theatre Award nomination for her leading role in ‘The Cherry Orchard’ in Galway.

She played Caroline Reasley in a main role in the ITV crime thriller ‘The Long Call,’  and acted opposite Gemma-Leah Devereux in the film ‘The Bright Side.’

Cullen played Caroline Sheridan in the comedy-drama ‘The Dry,’ which aired on RTÉ One and BritBox in 2022.

She had an appearance in the Dublin Theatre Festival’s ‘Good Sex.’ Cullen will soon be seen in the Hulu series ‘Obituary’ as well as ‘Bodkin.’

It’s not only the access to stunning landscapes that gives this show its edge, but also the incredibly talented local cast and crew.

Jez Scharf, creator, co-showrunner, and executive producer, explains, “I think for me, one of the really exciting things is that we’ve gotten to utilise the talent in Ireland, and the level of that talent is unbelievable, across both cast and crew.

What has personally been very exciting is getting to help showcase so much Irish talent, on screen and off.”
