Six council homes vacant for more than six months

THERE are six homes in Tallaght which belong to South Dublin County Council which have been vacant for more than six-months.

It was revealed at the Tallaght Area Committee meeting that there were six local authority houses, five in Tallaght South and one in Tallaght Central, which have been vacant for more than half a year.

The council cited difficulties around socio-demographic and estate management as having an impact on getting a property turned around and ready for re-let.

“Properties are classified as ‘hard-to-let’ where no expressions of interest are received following advertisement on CBL or where three formal tenancy offers made following expressions of interest through CBL are refused,” the housing authority stated.

“In addition to analysis of the reasons and contributory factors for refusals in specific cases, we are exploring potential additional measures including allocations on estate management grounds, works above the minimum standards including security and environmental works, and potential tenancy supports to assist with allocation of such properties.”
