Skull The Pierre: Making waves in the Irish music scene

Dublin’s favourite enigma, Skull The Pierre, makes a triumphant comeback with his most powerful release to date.

The Kimmage-based rapper and producer, whom District Magazine called a “shapeshifter,” is making waves in the Irish music scene and developing a cult following on social media.

Kid Kuba, a renowned collaborator and mosh-inducing rapper, appears on ‘PAIN,’ a hip-hop tribute to therapeutic late-night trips with friends or loved ones.

Like all of Skull The Pierre’s songs, ‘PAIN’ is not only incredibly catchy and commercially successful, but it also shines in a scene where mainstream hip-hop has taken over as an authentic and inventive sound.

‘PAIN’ is a smooth track that combines hard-hitting percussion, dreamy synths, and sliding guitar chords to create a soundscape reminiscent of Frank Ocean’s ‘Lost.’

The skillful and upbeat vocals of Pierre and Kid Kuba perfectly complement the groove, making ‘PAIN’ a great addition to playlists with Isaiah Rashad, Kid Cudi, ASAP Rocky, Kota the Friend, and others.

According to Pierre, ‘PAIN’ is inspired by late-night drives he would go on with his friend, which consisted of getting takeaways, driving to somewhere scenic such as Vico Baths or Killiney Beach, and having “long cathartic conversations” and/or just sitting in silence.

Almost all of his releases are written, produced, recorded, performed, mixed, edited, designed, promoted, etc. by Pierre himself.

His future plans include a second headline show in the main room of Whelan’s on March 21, his next single release also in March, and then an EP in May.

For the production of ‘PAIN’, he would like to thank himself, Victor Soderland for his connections and helping him associate with the necessary people, Joe for filming the music video, Orla for the photos, Kid Kuba for being “one of the illest rappers in Dublin”, and Josse for driving him to and from work.
