A NUMBER of young people from the county will be taking part in South Dublin Comhairle na nÓg’s Run4Fun event in Tallaght Stadium this month, with plans for five students from each secondary school in the county to attend, reports Aideen O’Flaherty.

South Dublin Comhairle na nÓg, which is one of 31 child and youth councils in local authorities around the country, set up the 4k running and walking event as an opportunity take a multifaceted approach to the health of young people, focusing on spiritual, mental, physical and social health.

Luca Crone (15), who is the chairperson for South Dublin Comhairle na nÓg and a Transition Year student in the Holy Family Community School in Rathcoole, told The Echo: “The fun run is to promote health and wellbeing among young people in South Dublin.

“We hope to get around five students from every school in South Dublin, totalling around 200 to 300 young people.

“Each year we tackle a topic or issue that is a problem for young people, and at our AGM we came up with health and wellbeing.

“We organised the fun run because we wanted to look for something that would cover all aspects of health and wellbeing for young people.

“We want to spread the word [about looking after your health] and educate people.

“This isn’t just a fun run – it’s also educational.”

There will be music and refreshments at the event, which is being held on Wednesday, May 16, and there will be stalls with information about many aspects of young people’s health.
