Spar on Decies Road working hard to accommodate community

PHONE queries from members of the public led to the reignition of a delivery service at a Ballyfermot store, reports Maurice Garvey.

In recent weeks, the Spar on Decies Road received calls from residents enquiring about deliveries, and since starting up a service 10 days ago, they have been working hard to accommodate the community.

“We used to do it years ago, but kind of knocked it on the head,” said Ronan McDermott, Manager at Spar Decies Road.

“During Covid-19, we were getting calls from people so we started it up on Monday (May 18). It is baby steps but we are growing it and doing advertising and leaflets to let people know about it.”

The delivery service covers the Ballyfermot area, but also Palmerstown, Chapelizod and Cherry Orchard.

Spar on Decies Road in lower Ballyfermot has seen an increase in business during Covid-19, but McDermott assures customers they have everything customers need.

“Even though it is a small store, we have everything you need. And if people come in looking for x, y, z, we will do our best to source it.

“We have had a great response from customers during Covid-19. We stayed open every day, seven days a week, and have had an increase of 10 per cent in foot traffic.

“The HSE were in to have a look and we got the all clear from gardai from a health and safety point of view.

“We found local customers are bagging more, filling their baskets and shopping local rather than going to the supermarket.”
